Designing storage around a stair head can be challenging, but with the Elfa storage system, it’s possible to create an efficient and visually appealing solution. For Von and Jordan’s room, I developed three unique configurations that balance cost, function, and aesthetics, transforming the space into a walk-in wardrobe. Watch the full walkthrough below…
Key Concepts in the Design
- Exploring Three Layout Options
- Option 1: A mixed-use layout combining gliding baskets, shoe racks, and fixed shelves. While flexible, this configuration includes premium components that elevate the cost.
- Option 2: A focus on hanging space for clothes, providing simplicity and cost efficiency.
- Option 3: Prioritising shelving for folded items and accessories, maximising storage capacity.
- Balancing Cost and Functionality
Fixed shelves and hanging rails offer a more affordable solution compared to gliding components, ensuring budget-friendly options without sacrificing usability. - Visual Improvements with a Nib Wall
Introducing a nib wall helps conceal visible storage from the room’s entrance, giving the space a polished, walk-in wardrobe feel. This small change dramatically enhances the room’s overall aesthetics. - Future-Proof Modularity
Elfa’s modular design allows components to be easily rearranged or upgraded as needs evolve, ensuring lasting value and flexibility in the space.
Why Choose Elfa for Tricky Spaces?
The Elfa storage system is ideal for challenging layouts like stair heads, offering adaptable and durable solutions. With thoughtful planning, even awkward spaces can become functional and stylish. By combining premium components like gliding baskets with cost-effective hanging rails and shelves, these designs can fit any budget while maintaining a high-end look.
